Hey guys!! I have an order for this cake for Dec. 20th but in the brown and gold; it took me, from start to finish, about 6.5 hours to do this cake; I used Toba Garrett's recipe for Buttercream (1 lb butter, 3 1/2 lb of sugar icon_eek.gif ) and I used MMF. The logos are done by hand (on the brown cake, I will be painting the logos with luster dust).

For this cake, I only charged 65.00; but after completing it, I felt I undercharged, so, for the cake due Wednesday, I want to charge 100.00; is that too much???

How many people will it feed? I'd say $75 if its 15 or less people or $100 20+ people! Good luck!!!

PS - Be sure your customers don't know each other!!!! icon_razz.gif

No, I don't think it's too much!! If you are in Nashville, you live in a pretty upscale area. I've seen websites where purse cakes start at $300!! They are a ton of work and they are gettinga custom cake. To quote a phrase: "Good cakes aren't cheap, and cheap cakes aren't good!!"

The cake is made from an 11x15, I'm not good at breaking down the cost of the supplies though.

luster dust
MMF
buttercream
cake box
cake square
lining for the square

I totally suck at this pricing thing!!

(they don't know each other; I even told the person that I made this cake for that the prices would be going up; too much time involved with it)

I don't feel that's too much for all the work you put into the cake. It's reallt special.

I think $100 is reasonable because you certainly couldn't buy that cake at Costco but as aundron commented make sure your clients don't know each other.

You should look at this website to figure out pricing for your cakes.

http://www.allfreelance.com/payment.html

I learned about it here on CC earlier this week. It's geared to Graphic Designers however the concept is very similar for cake decorators.

In the past I quoted $60 for my Elmo cake but in the end realized it was worth more and since my client was a good friend understood and paid more without hesitation.
