I am making cupcakes for my son's pre-k class to decorate and I was wondering how much batter you guys use in the cups. Also any ideas for toppings and candies to decorate the cupcakes with? Thanks!!

For a flat top cupcake I use the large cookie scoop from Pampered Chef. It holds 3T of batter.

As for the toppings, you could use just about anything. Are you doing a theme or just fun?

Leily...you stole my answer...lol

I too use the PC large scoop (3 Tbsp). If I want a rounded top cupcake I use 1 level large scoop plus 1 level of the medium (2 Tbsp) scoop. Then I usually get a rounded top cupcake.

I love to use a soft buttercream with sprinkles or colored sugar for quick cupcakes or even a poured fondant that the cupcake is dipped in then use royal icing accents.

Hmm...noew I need to bake more cupcakes...lol...Thanks!

I do not have a PC scoop, any way of telling how much that is cup wise? I am doing it next Friday for his class as their weekly cooking thingy. It iwll be the 19th so that is kind of close to Halloween so maybe a halloween theme. I was thinking spiders, monsters that kind of thing. I was going to prefill a bunch of disposable bags with green, orange, brown frosting and let them squeeze some on and then deocrate. Messy but fun. Any ideas for easy halloween cupcakes?

LOL, sorry Dessertdiva! I was going to come back and post about the addition of the medium scoop also but was on my way out the door for an appointment and figured I would do it when I got back... so you beat me to it!

As for the Halloween design... you could do orange on the cupcake with a brown or green steam with yellow icing for them to create faces (kids love making pumpkin faces... who am I kidding I do to.. so lets make that "kids at heart")

Could also do them in all white and let the kids use black to make spider webs (not sure what age they are, this may be too messy)

With the green could easily make monstor faces. You could bring M&M's for them to use for eyes (or spider bodies) then string licorice for hair (or spider legs)

Hmm... I think I might go to the kitchen and make some cupcakes with dessertdiva now. icon_lol.gif
