I am planning on making a pumpkin cake for Halloween. It's going to be big, so I'm going to stack four 10" x 3" rounds.

My problem?

Will the cakes withstand their own weight? Do I need dowels? Or do I need to put a cake board somewhere in between the layers? How do i carve it with a cake board in it? Should I stack two cakes, carve the bottom half and do the same with the other two, then stack? How do I dowel it?

I only plan on using buttercream between layers, so I'm not concerned iwth slippage.

I need any and all tips!!!

Thanks!

i did the exact same thing a couple years ago for our chamber of commerce pumpkin auction. i didn't use any dowels and only bc in between layers and it worked wonderfully. of course, it only had to travel about 1/2 mile but i think you will be fine!
