Good morning everyone!!

I will be doing a sheet cake and on top of the cake I need to create a door. I want to do it in fondant as it is going to lay flat on-top and will be cut with the servings.

How do you create a wood grain effect (color) for an oak door.
I have seen some pictures on CC, but can't seem to find them. I am really interested in trying to make it look stained rather then painted.

Would I mix two different color fondants or use a ivory base fondant and stain/paint that.

If anyone knows of a link please let me know!

Any help would be much appreceiated!!

Thank You!!

I've done a few wood floors, but not a door. You can see them in my photos. I tinted the fondant a light brown color, then painted on with a new clean brush, using a mixture of brown gel color & a little gin. You could use vodka or lemon extract instead, the alcohol evaporates out quicker than water.

WOW! Your work is great. Thank you for the instruction!

I assume the brown gel color is piping gel tinted brown?

Thx. Brown gel color is just color you use to tint buttercream - either Wilton or Americolor - maybe it's called paste color? Just use it straight out of the jar/bottle with a little gin or vodka to thin.
