I've been asked to make this wedding cake... I haven't given the bride-to-be a price yet because I'm not sure how or how expensive the sugar for this cake will be .. are they using cake sparkle in the clear color type to do this? If so, how do you press it to the side of the cake? She doesn't want fondant. She wants buttercream but the ribbon roses can be made from fondant. Any suggestions??

This cake is actually in one of the Wilton books and it tells exactly how to make it. It is a beautiful cake! I am at work so I can't look it up for you but if you still need it by the time I get home I will look it up for you.

I think it is the one that has the three tiered stacked cake on front with the roses around the bottom of each tier. The one that looked similar to Tom and Katies's cake. I want to say its the romance book. I have so many books that I could be wrong but I know it is in one of them. I wish I were at home so I could help you.

I am almost positive its in the Wilton wedding cakes a romance portfolio. If I didn't have to work I would be home so I could help you. LOL.

I found it!! It's in the Wilton Tiered cakes book. They used thinned piping gel on the fondant cake ... she doesn't want fondant.. she wants buttercream so I'm not sure how I'll get the sparkle stuff to stay onto that.

The sparkle stuff should adhere to the buttercream easier than to the fondant. Just press lightly as you apply and you should be fine. HTH!!! icon_biggrin.gif

This woman uses sanding sugar to coat her cakes. It's a coarse sugar like sugar sprinkles for cookies.
