Does anyone know how to make rice paper butterflies as displayed in this cake from Kittiscakes http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-photo_85212.html
I looked up Kittiscakes to try and pm her, but username not found. These butterflies are absolutely gorgeous.........

I have seen it done and there is something to do with piping gel and edible food markers. I think I saw a tutorial on sugarcraft.com. Try that!

I believe there is an article posted on this very topic.

If you don't have a printer for edible images, you can buy sheets of butterflies from www.sugarcraft.com. The directions are there as well.

I spread the page with piping gel very thinnly using an offset spatula. Let the page dry at least 4 hours. Cut them out with sissors. I wiped them frequently with a papertowel with cooking oil to prevent sticking. (I have a wedding cake in my photos with butterflies).

The bodies can be made with RI, fondant or gumpaste.

I hope this helps. icon_smile.gif

thanks Pam. Do you do the black outline after the piping gel dries. Yours are very nice. I like the ones with the black veins...it looks so realistic

I believe they used edible markers to color them and royal icing for the bodies. HTH. thumbs_up.gif

The black lines are already printed on them. If you are ambitious, you can draw your own butterflies on rice paper with food decorating pens. icon_wink.gif
