I'm making a wedding cake and was going to use a 12" on the bottom. On Wiltons site it says a 12"x2 2 layer will feed 56. I went and bought the Wilton 12"x2 pan yesterday and it said on the instruction sheet on the pan that it feeds 40 for a 2 layer. Anyone know the true serving size?
Thanks,
Kelly
Do the math. Determine what size pieces you're going to cut at the wedding.
I use the wilton wedding chart. the standard wedding cake size is 1x2x4". Remember, wedding cake is a dessert not a meal. So if you cut the cake 12 rows by 6 rows (1" x 2"), you can get 72 pcs from this cake. I use this chart for all cakes and I never run out of cake.
If you're going to cut them huge, like 2x3x4, then again, just do the math. 2"x3" = 6 rows by 4 rows = 24 pcs.
Here's a link to photos showing how I cut the cake and the sizes of the cake servings. http://cateritsimple.com/_wsn/page19.html
(I'm not sure how they are getting 56 pcs .... that would be cutting them 7 rows by 8 columns, neither of which divides by 12 very easily).
According to wilton the 56 is wedding servins (1x2x4) , this is the size I use for figuring up price
The 40 servings is their party servings (1 1/2x2x4)
I consider cake a dessert not a meal - if they are having only dessert then I suggest they order more cake.
