Saturday my husband came home and told me that he found what he wanted for Christmas, a .357 revolver at the local gun dealer. He went back there twice and spent an hour caressing it that day and really thought about buying it.

This morning right after he left for work I called them and asked if they could hide it for a couple hours and tell him that someone bought it Saturday (I wasn't in town that day so he knows I couldn't have bought it). It's a used gun so they can't get another like it and this is the one he wants.

They said he looked almost ready to cry when he walked in this morning to visit it and found it was gone.

I went in and was sitting outside the store when he called to tell me not to bother if I was going in for it because it was gone. It's now sitting and waiting to be wrapped.

My boys are going to have a blast with this because he's going to have to look for it. I'm hiding a clue in an empty DVD case and wrapping that. About half way through his hunt he's going to find the empty holster so then he'll be going nuts.

I know, I just have to keep him from looking for it until after the kids' toys are assembled. Last year he got a fishing pole (ice fishing) and he set that up while I got stuff out of boxes and stuff for the kids. icon_rolleyes.gif He's a big kid himself. icon_wink.gif

It's WORTH IT!!!! That's how my fiance did my engagement ring, we went to get it and it was gone icon_cry.gif When he proposed officially an hour later, I couldn't even say "yes" because of the shock.

He will LOVE you for this! He doesn't know you're being mean, the gun just got away. SO COOL! He'll remember this year.

I love it. I wish I could do something like that to my hubby. Every year he gets me. He wraps my presents so even if I shake them I can't tell what they are and he puts them in odd size boxes. I am such a kid at xmas it kills me when i shake and can't figure it out. LOL

He came home pouting SO bad last night. I'm doing my best not to laugh because you can tell he's disappointed about it.

I think he's really bummed because I told him that I had been about to go in the store when I talked to him and he told me it was gone. icon_lol.gif

I've been told it's my fault, in a good natured way, because last time he just bought a gun without talking to me I got a little upset so he didn't put money down on it or anything. I pointed out that he has a cell phone and could have called to talk to me or asked the guys to hold it until he talked to his wife (he told me at that point that they would have lost a sale and I pointed out that they wouldn't have since I was on my way to buy it).

It's going to drive me nuts until Christmas. I think the kids are getting their stockings first thing so we can watch their daddy try to figure out all the clues. icon_twisted.gif

My boyfriend would have had a second choice ready and bought that one as soon as the first was gone. Then proceeded to tell me that it was all my fault that he couldn't have the first one and try to make me feel guilty!

While, I'm not a gun lover, it's a cute story that could apply to anything. My worry, too, would be that now he has a gun on his mind and will go buy one on impulse or make you RUN to get it and put one on hold.

Once, as a teenager, my Mom really wanted a cassette tape. It was a couple weeks before christmas, and I told her not to get it so close to the holidays. Well, of COURSE, it was gone the next day and this was before internet and before I had a car (and we lived in a small area), so she didn't get it. She NEVER let me forget that!!! It took two years before we found it again, so she eventually got it, but still....

Wish I could do that with DH... we don't do gifts usually, so that's not going to happen! LOL

A little update for you.

The guys at the hardware store are really enjoying this and have come up with a good story, they told him what time the guy who bought the gun came in and then came up with some really good details. Apparently this fictional character was complaining about wear marks on the gun and one of the guys wouldn't have sold it to him.

My husband is still pouting, he works a couple evenings a week at an offsale and when the guy who "sold" the gun came to the window last night my husband told him "I sold it" without hearing what the guy wanted. icon_rolleyes.gif

Your husband is going to feel like a total HEEL after he gets that gun - treating the sales guy like he did something wrong! LOL Gee, he REALLY, REALLY wanted that gun. It might be his best Christmas present ever. How many more days do you have to smirk?

I'm going to enjoy the next week. icon_twisted.gif

I don't think he's going to feel too bad, we went to see Santa and stopped over while we were waiting to get the pics and the guys were all laughing about what we're doing to him. The one he saw last night told me he was having tons of fun rubbing it in. icon_lol.gif

Well here's the update.

He was confused when he opened the DVD case and found his clue but he started searching. The look on his face when he opened the holster was priceless, he had been convinced by the guys that the gun was gone.

I have been told that I'm evil and stuff, he thinks it's the only way that I could have gotten so many people to get their stories straight and not spill the beans. He's been laughing about it all day.

He has been told that he can trust the kids with secrets now since they kept quiet about this even when he was pouting over the gun being sold very loudly with them listening. I'm really proud of them, they're 4 & 8 and never said a word for 2 weeks.
