Dragees On Cupcakes Children Might Have..

I'm doing cupcakes for a wedding and the idea in my mind uses dragees... I don't know if it's acceptable to put them on something children might eat... I rarely use them, but always tell people not to eat them, but I'm wondering if a child would eat them anyway. Do you's use them or not?
I use them- and while we do eat them, I find myself limiting how many I use. I know I wanted to use more on the owl cupcakes I made yesterday....
I'm planning on ordering the plain. edible dragees that Global Sugar Art sells. I think I can make them more sparkly with the edible pearl dust that Wilton sells. They probably won't be as shiny as the "for decoration only" dragees, but I figure it's worth a try. ![]()
I missed something.. what's the reasoning for NOT eating them?
I also ate them as a kid (I thought it was expected?), but haven't used them as an adult. Kinda confused by this thread!
I am TOTALLY lost!! What are dragees??? Sorry to sound stupid!
I ate them as a kid, I still eat them now when decorating a cake - they are widely used and eaten here in Europe, and I'm not going to stop or tell anyone else not toeat them, it's ridiculous!

They are the little silver balls you probably ate by handfuls when you were a kid.
In California they are illegal to sell, as they can contain real silver, which is harmful if consumed in mass quantities.
The only way they could ACTUALLY be harmful is if someone gobbled an entire container...or chipped a tooth.
I prefer to only use them on decorated pieces that will more than likely be taken off just because of stupid liability issues in this sue-happy country. ![]()
I think the two main reasons for not eating them is a potential choking hazard for small children and also that they have no nutritional value.
I do use them when decorating for adults, but I don't use them on anything that I make for kids. Just don't want any choking kids or mad parents.
I think they are pretty safe especially if they are not too large. I ate them once also as a kid on a cake and my mom told me they were edible. I don't believe there is any harm in eating them as long as they are labled food safe. HTH ![]()

Oh yes, they will be thrilled to eat them. I always ate them as a child. I used to put them on Christmas cookies and little kids were always the ones who wanted to eat them. The adults were the ones who had figured out that they were tasteless rocks and sometimes picked them off.
If you are actually concerned about liability or safety issues, rethink your design. Considering the number of them I ate as a child, I wouldn't worry about them; but I'm not you. Do I use them now? No, but then I think they are tasteless rocks.
They don't sell them at the grocery stores here, only at cake shops. When I finally found some, the cake lady told me they are for decoration only and remove them before eating. However, as Lacie said, I ate them as a kid and I'm still alive. I leave them on my cookies and these are the ones the kids always eat first.
