Assuming I ever get the nerve up to create a cake which has to be supported by a dowel or two (I have a candle cake in mind lately!), how does one go about cutting a cake containing a dowel for support?

Well, if you know where the dowels are as in the case of stacked seprator plates - just remove them and cut.

If not, just cut until you hit the dowel, and then remove it.

Unless your question is how to cut a dowel for a cake

Jan,

Thanks, you understood my question perfectly.

But the additional information was also much appreciated!
