My mothers birthday is wed, and I'm making her a replica of her Dooney & Bourke handbag. I'm thinking about using a cake mix extender for the first time and I found this one from ladycakes.com:

--------------------------------------------

White Almond Sour Cream

2 boxes white cake mix (I use Betty Crocker)
2 C flour
2 C sugar
1 ½ tsp salt
2 2/3 C water
4 Tbsp vegetable oil
2 tsp real vanilla
2 tsp pure almond extract
2 C (16 oz carton) sour cream
8 large egg whites

Sift cake mix & flour to remove any lumps. Then add all dry ingredients in large bowl and whisk together to combine. Combine all wet ingredients in another bowl and mix well. Beat on a low speed for 2 minutes. Bake at 325 degrees F until cake tests done.

--------------------------------------------

Do you guys think thats a good recipe? I'm not happy with the taste of my ususal betty crocker anymore. I want a WOW taste to go along with the WOW look. (not to be to full of myself) lol.

Should I just go out and buy sour cream or do you think yogurt would work?

Heres the pic of the purse

I've ony made it with the sour cream (and DH mix), but if you don't use a low/no fat yogurt, it should work.

Can't wait to see your pictures icon_smile.gif

I will definitely post pics. I think I will go out and get sour cream. I might as well do it right lol. I'd be devestated if it didn't work and probably never again venture outside of my box mix comfort zone.

I know you decided to pick up some sour cream but I wanted to post that, yes, you can substitute yogurt for sour cream. icon_smile.gif

To yield 1 cup sour cream, use 1 cup yogurt plus 1 teaspoon baking soda. Don't use non-fat yogurt as it has a higher water content than regular. (You need the fat content for better baking results.)

Thanks whimsette! I'll remember that because I'm sure i'll make this recipe again and I never have sour cream but always have yogurt.
