Well here's the cake I'd attempted to do last week on Tuesday.

I didn't drop it today, just iced it and put shells on it.
icon_twisted.gif
Simple and boring. It's for the tasting for the bridal shower that I've been rambling on about.

It's a chocolate cake with cream cheese icing. Thank gosh I'm going to cover the bridal cake w/ fondant! icon_lol.gif

Don't lash out completely with the critcism; the icing was not the right consistency, plus it's non-crusting CC icing, which makes it even harder. icon_lol.gif

Excuses, excuses.

Tips for making tasting cakes and/or anything else is far beyond welcome!

Dennysee --

1) There is nothing boring about anything that looks like chocolate cake.

2) You are the first person who I have ever heard of doing a tasting for a shower cake. What made you decide to do this?

3) You are too critical of yourself. Your cake looks fine.

1.) Lol. Well the design was simple. Once again, because it's only for taste and not appearance.

2.) I want people to like my product and I'm pretty much doing this 'out of my own good will', although it's actually a sneaky attempt to build a client-base. icon_twisted.gif There will be 150 people at the shower and I know all of them and they all know me. I want every tier to have a mind-blowing taste. And I know that if the people I'm doing this for approve of the taste, no one else will have any complaints.

3.) You said it- it looks fine, not good. icon_lol.gif

The cake looks good to me. (The picture was a bit blurry, but that was clearly the picture not the cake. icon_lol.gif )

A shower with 150 people?!? Wow!!! I've never heard of such a large shower. How many will there be at the wedding?

Thanks for the support!

Yep. Really? I thought they were all big! Lol.

There will be about 425 at the wedding.

only thing I can say is, for next time, use a smaller star tip to do your border, the border you have on your tasting cake is a little to big for the cake you made.

I hate using those big ones we got at school...

I prefer..14, 16, 21 and a 30 something ( I think it's a 31 or 34 )

But, you got good coverage, you can't see any cake, or cake crumbs.

I always look to see if I can get 10% of the people as clients..that means that from those 150 people you may end up with 15 new customers!!! not a bad deal!!! thumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gif

Thank you!

Yes, I always go overboard with the size of the shells.

I think I used a 21 and elongated the shells on a 6" cake! icon_lol.gif I hate elongated shells, but oh well.

Your 'approval', if I may so call it, means a lot to me Risque!! Truly!

Oh please...no one's approval needed except your own....you asked a question and I believe when someone asks, they deserve to know! lol...you have a LOT of time to find your "signature" and who knows...maybe elongated shells will be yours...

A signature is something that we do on our cakes that no matter HOW hard we try not to ....it always comes thru..lol

Take care, may you have a long and lasting "career".. thumbs_up.gif

It looks great, but I think you are going to need a lot more cake for that many folks!! icon_wink.gif (and that is a LOT of people for a shower around here too, the norm is round 20 or so for the ones I have attended!!)

Well still, Risque, I look up to you. icon_lol.gif Which school did you attend?

It definately will be a stretch for me to make cke for that many people. My mom said, "Don't try to bake and decorate the cake on the same day!" (Meaning the shower day).

icon_surprised.gif That would be a horrible sight. I'm going to do it at least two days before the shower, no doubt.

Good job, your shells came out so neat. Sounds like the flavors would be great together. I can't wait to see the whole cake completed.
