How Soon Can Toba's Fondant Be Used?
Decorating By lish1904 Updated 7 Oct 2007 , 1:08pm by alanahodgson
I want to do either cookies or a cake today using Toba's recipe. I used it before and loved it. The recipe says it should sit for 24hrs but would it still be okay to use it on cookies even after a few hours? Or even a cake? Or will I just have to make a cake using just buttercream today?
When I want to try more fondant items. All help is appreciated. THANKS!!
On cookies it will probably be okay. If you're cutting the fondant with the cutters, I would do it on parchement lined cookie sheets and throw them in the freezer to allow them to hold their shape when you transfer them to the cookie. The fondant will be very soft and stretchy without that cure time. My theory is that the gelatin needs to set. I had to use some fondant to cover a cake within a couple hours of making the fondant and it was super sticky and stretchy. It was difficult, but doable. Since you're cookies are much smaller than a cake, it shouldn't be so much of an issue. One thing I tried in order to help it set up faster was to put it in the fridge/freezer for the time had had available to wait. It seemed to help a little. good luck.
