So I made this chocolate cake and when I cut it it wouldnt stay together, it was crumbley. I wouldnt say it was 'dry' but it could have been moister. I heard people saying it was good, but I was disappointed.

I used the cake mix docotor recipe for the white brides cake, but i used chocolate instead.

I was like 1 mix, 3 eggs, 1 stick butter, 1 cup milk.

I often make a recipe quite similar for and extender but instead it uses
1 mix + ingredients called for on the box + 2/3 cup milk, 1/2 cup butter, 1 cup flour, 3/4 cup sugar, 1tsp baking powder and it always turns out wonderful. I thought the above recipe was almost the same and it made less batter (which I thought would be great if I just wanted to make a small cake)

I am not a baking guru, I just follow directions, so does anyone know what might have gone wrong? Maybe recipes just need the oil or some water? maybe it doesnt convert well with chocolate?

I don't have an answer, but here's a bump since I have the same question. What can be added to make a crumbly cake hold better? Mine wasn't dry either, but could have been moister.

The eggs hold the cake together.....and the butter assures better moisture. I can't see anything you could have done wrong. A few times I've left ingredients out and would have sworn that I'd added them. Maybe this is what happened???? I always add pudding mix.
