I don't have any idea what make mine is, it's just yuor standard hand-crank pasta maker. I probably paid less than $30.00 for it (I think). Wish I could give you more info on it. I would really like to have an electric motor for my machine, or maybe a pasta attachment for my KA ... now, THAT would be sweet!!!!!

Congrats on the new hubby! I'm sure he's really proud of you!

Since I started working with fondant more, one of the best things I've purchased was a $2 piece of vinyl from Wal-Mart. I just slap that down on the counter or table and nothing sticks to it!!! I roll out fondant and gumpaste with only a little cornstarch on the rolling pin (EASY clean up and can re-use over an over). It is also WAY cheaper than those blue silicone mats, that I thought I would be willing to trade my first born for! Not a chance now!!!

HMMM...wonder why Melvira likes the foam rollers? Ha Ha!! Just kidding! When I read your post in another thread, I was at Lowe's in a matter of hours, girl!!! It works like nobody's business!!!!! You are a GENIOUS!

Msauer: You go girl! I keep telling people to buy that plastic at the WalMart fabric counter!! Don't spend $40 on a silpat mat... this stuff is amazing and cheap!! If it ever got damaged you'd be like, "Oh well. It's $2.97 a yard!" I cut it into several size pieces so I can use the one that's best for the job I am doing!

Bekah66: I actually have a Ron Popeil pasta machine and that's great for shapes, but it won't roll it out flat in sheets like one of the hand crank models. But I love Ron!! I have several of his products! Ok... NOT the pocket fisherman or the spray on hair. Those were a bit goofy! But those were his earlier days of inventing! The rotisserie is a gift from God!

Here is my rookie ignorance: What do you use the foam roller for?

Thanks for the lead on the Ron Popeil pasta machine!

I can only name three.....hmmm....

Silpat - wouldn't do nearly as much fondant without it
KA - can't imagine making icing with a hand mixer ugh!
Agbay leveler - infinitely better than wilton's - I actually through my wilton ones away the first time I used this one!!

I guess those are my three. I am going to purchase a silpin and rolling pin guides for rolling fondant. I found a store relatively close to me that sells them!!

Melvira, I made 3 sheet cakes tonight after going out and buying the foan rollers! YOU ARE A GENIUS! My husband came in the kitchen and saw me and thought I was losing it. But a few minutes later when I left the kitchen to get something, I came back and found him smoothing one of the cakes with the roller! icon_lol.gif

Thank you so much for sharing the wonderful idea! And it so much fun!

Polymer Clay books! I am addicted to modeling with fondant. The clay books are great for beginners like me! They give easy to follow instructions that can easily converted to modeling with fondant.

Bekah66 that is hysterical!! All of a sudden you have him on a level where he is comfortable with the tools, and he can't resist trying it! I love it! Hug him for me!!

nglez09 all my training happened in my kitchen! I think for me, cooking in general is an instinct, and I am very creative. As far as cake decorating, I did end up taking the Wilton Courses, but I was fairly well self taught by that point. I guess I just wanted those certificates!! haha!

I would never give up my cake projector. I use it for almost every cake, as nothing ensures perfect lettering like a projector! And the best part is that I got the thing for free. (A cake decorator friend didn't need it anymore...she was getting out of decorating.)
