I'm always reading about doctored cake mixes. I don't ever do anything except maybe add a box of pudding or something. I thought it would be fun to see what variations other people use. If you don't mind sharing I would love to know. Thanks!

It just so happens that I tried a doctored version for the first time today. I used the "Cake Mix Extender" recipe from this website and the result was shockingly good. As a bonus, you get extra batter so I was able to make two 9" rounds and two 6" rounds out of the mix.

I think the cake tastes even better and I don't think I'll turn back to just the DH alone icon_biggrin.gif

Hi,
I use DH Deluxe cake mixes (any flavor), 1 packet of Dream Whip, 4 eggs and 1 cup of water. Mix at medium for 5 minutes.
I'm going to check out the "cake mix extender" recipe - have seen it more than once this past week in the posts icon_lol.gif

I use the recipe Squirrleycakes posted eons ago. Variations for about any cake you would ever want to make! The white almond sour cream variation is my signature cake here.

There are some great doctored recipes in the Cake Mix Doctor book. The fluffy yellow cake and buttermilk chocolate are both excellent.

Thanks Kay,
I have another question, the recipe says yogurt, has anyone tried it with flavored yogurt or should it just be the plain?
Thanks
June

I haven't tried it but I would think it would work. Maybe some else could help on that one.

I always use the plain or vanilla flavored yogurt when I use it. (or just use sour cream)

Here's the site for the cake mix extender:

I used sour cream but read that yogurt yields the same taste. icon_rolleyes.gif

Substitute the water for milk, the oil for melted butter and add an extra egg.

Do you need to add more chocolate to the extender for a chocolate cake.
Thanks

IF I am using an extender for chocolate cake, I substitute 1/3 of the flour with cocoa - that way I still have a nice chcolate cake. (if you use all flour, it seem to dilute the chocolate flavor too much for my taste)
