I have the pan and a birthday next week and I'd love to make a train but I have a couple of questions.
1. Do I have to use a pound cake recipe or will a normal boxed cake work just fine?
2. do I have to tie the two sides together or can I use the clips that I have from other pans.
3. If I have to tie it, what would you suggest I use, twine? I don't want anything melting in my oven.
4. I know I'm supposed to let it rest before taking off the top. What is the recommended time?
Thanks in advance for any help.

I did this back in September. I used a Duncan Hines yellow cake and followed the directions on the side of the box for their pound cake, calls for vanilla pudding mix and calls for a different amount of oil and eggs.

I used kitchen string to tie it together. I don't think the clips will work.

I followed the time on the directions for the pan. Had no problems at all. Make sure to grease and flour it VERY well. I didn't have it stick at all.
You don't have to use pound cake, I have this pan and use marble, chocolate or yellow cake from a mix following the directions.
Use twine or string, the clips won't fit. Make sure it's tied tightly.
I take my cakes out of the pan within 5 minutes of removal from the oven, make sure you don't let the cake cool too much or it will stick.
I always use more than 1 cake mix, you need about six cups of batter for it to fill all the way and it's best to put a little extra in rather than fall short, simply put the pan on a cookie sheet to catch drips.
