MFF Skinner Blend

The Skinner Blend is a polymer clay technique of mixing 2 colors of clay in certain way to achieve one sheet of clay that gradually blends from one color to the other. This technique can also be used for MFF !!!

Start with two colors of MMF. Pic 1

Roll them out the same thickness, and cut out a triangle of each. Arrange the triangles into a square or rectangle. Pic 2

Fold the MMF square in half. Pic 4

Then roll the MMF a bit, towards the fold and away from the fold, not side-to-side. NOTE: The trick to the Skinner blend is to always fold the MMF in the same direction. Fold, roll, fold, roll, keep repeating until the colors have totally blended together. Pic 5

If you notice, the nice rectangle I started with ended up to be a long thin rectangle. I dont know how to avoid that maybe starting purposefully with a rectangle that is placed up and down vs. sideways. Pic 6

In this picture you can see that I cut the rectangle in half to focus on the area of color I was most interested in. Pic 7

In the end, I cut out leaf shapes across the color blend, increasing the size of leaf as the color became darker. Pic 9

I then created a rose which fades from a white center to light blue outer leaves. Pic 10

As an added bonus, you can use this method to find out what amounts of each color to mix together, to obtain a certain color along the spectrum you create from the above instructions. This link explains how.
