I live in St. Louis and have tried all grocery/gourmet/kitchen shops that I can think of to find lime curd to make a margarita cake. No one has any!
I've searched the internet some - most come from UK and another site has a min $20.00 order plus shipping. I just wanted to make my daughter a margarita cake for her 21st birthday next week! It shouldn't be this hard! Please give me some leads - I'm willing to call grocery stores out of state to see if they'll ship it. Please help - any ideas ?

It's not that hard to make, it just takes some extra time. And it tastes better than the stuff in the jar. You just have to decide if you want key limes or regular limes.

Here's a link to a search I did for lime curd recipes.

Why not make your own? Make lemon curd and use lime juice instead of lemon. It's not hard and I'm sure yours will taste much better.

It's readily available in supermarkets here...in the jam and jelly area. There's usually just three or four jars of both lemon curd and lime curd, but it's really easy to find. Did you skip the supermarkets and go straight to gourmet? You might be surprised! icon_smile.gif

Cindy,
Have you ever made Lemom Meringue Pie?
The filling is Lemon Curd. (I know we don't think of it that way, but it is). So just make your filling with Lime juice instead and ya got yer lime curd.
Personally, I would use key limes as they have a more "lime" taste than those perty ones they have sitting next to the lemons.

I agree with chaptlps, key limes are definitely better.

And in markets here, you can now buy bottled key lime juice, which makes for a great back-up when fresh key limes are not available (the markets here do not always sell them).

I would make fresh curds, so I could add the zest.

My favorite is naval orange curd. Sooo good. I used one of the recipes from the link I posted earlier.

Our Krogers sells it, it is in the section where the canned puddings and pie fillings are. It is in a glass jar.

I found some !!!!! Any other time I would try to make my own, but not the week before Christmas, especially since I'm new to this cake stuff anyway. I found a Kroger that actually has some, located about 1 1/2 hour from home. My daughter will come home from college that route and make a shopping stop for me. THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR HELP !!!! I knew I could count on this fabulous site!

Can you share your recipe for Margarita cake? I have a friend and every month we have a girls night out and that or martini's are what we indulge in.

I was planning to make her a cake in shape of a drink..but I don't think Martini flavor translates well into cake..lol

Thanks!
