I wouldn't stack more than three... that is the most that I have done at one time... But that is just from my own experience... hopefully someone else can help you out as well icon_smile.gif Welcome to Cakecentral you will love it here. icon_wink.gif

Welcome to CC, you will love it here icon_smile.gif

I have two suggestions:
On a prepared 1/2" foamcore base, stack three 6" cakes, dowel, add a cake board, stack three more, and then use a sharpened center dowel to go thru all six cakes into the foam core. Be sure to make a hole in the middle board. Or you could stack two, then dowel and board; stack two more, dowel and board; stack last two, then center dowel thru all. Does that make sense? Or use as many as you need to get the height you want, but remember to dowel and center dowel. I wouldn't advise using more than 6, if you even need that many.

You could even screw the center dowel to the base, with the pointed end UP, after measuring how long it needs to be. Then "thread" your cakes onto it from the top, adding dowels and boards as in the previous method. That actually would be more stable with the attached center dowel.

I'm sure others will have good or better suggestions!

I just made one last weekend (in my photos) but I made it out of fudge brownie w/ cream cheese icing. Not my choice of combo but hey, customer gets what customer wants.

Anyway, at first I was going to layer 3 at a time, but realized it's so much easier just to do a layer + filling + layer on cardboard and do that 3 times. Plus it's so much more sturdy that way. I put in 3 dowels in each layer then 1 long, sharpened dowel through the center of the whole thing to hold it all together. That sucker NEVER moved!!

I know everyone else says to put it on something more sturdy than cardboard as the base, but I didn't have anything else. Anyway, I just used a large cardboard circle and it worked fine, provided I explained to the cutomer to hold from beneath.

Ok, well, hope it all works out for you. I had a blast doing it!!! One of my favorite cakes (minus the flavor combo, haha). Post some pics when you're done so we can all see.

Good Luck! thumbs_up.gif

Hey SugarFrosted
I stacked two 7 inch layers with four dowels then a board then 2 more layers and one small thin layer to make the top even and level then one dowel through the middle of all of them and it seems solid as can be of couse the whole thing is wrapped in fondant which helped but I actually laid the whole cake on it's side and rolled it in the fondant and it did not budge. Thanks again for the help!
