I'm making my first sculpted cake this weekend. It will be a Heineken beer bottle laying on it's side. I'm going to make 4 or 6 6" rounds, cut them in half, lay them side by side, and then carve out the neck.

I have just a few questions. First, I'm assuming I should put a layer of buttercream between each "layer" before sculpting....Is that right? Also, should I put a dowel through the middle, from on side to the other side, to hold "layers" together? Or will the buttercream act as glue and be enough to hold it together?

One last question...I'm thinking of using a whipped chocolate ganache as the frosting, instead of buttercream. Will that work just as well for holding the entire thing together?

Thanks!

yes to bc between... for firmer glue use melted chocolate!

yes to dowel all the way through for extra insurance.

then use whatever your heart desires to frost

tho' that ganache sounds great! -- can I lick the beaters?
