Holiday Cake Filling - Please Help!

I bet you guys are getting tired of me needing help with fillings! haha! I've been racking my little brain with recipes all day and I haven't gotten anywhere - so I'm coming to you for help!! I need some suggestions for a filling for a holiday cake that I'm making for my husband to take to work. I'd like something kind of unique and sort of rich but not too difficult. It's for a dark chocolate cake and I don't want to use anything too liquid-y icon_confused.gif like preserves, etc. Also, it needs to be a filling that doesn't have to be kept in the fridge.... aahhh.. please help! TIA

You can also try the hazelnut spread, Nutella. That would be sinfully rich in a chocolate cake. I used that last week in a birthday cake.

How about a white chocolate mousse with chopped marischino cherries in it. That would look pretty and taste great with choc. cake too!

And if you really wanted to make it Christmas-y you could use both red and green marischinos.

Why not pulverise candy canes and add some mint extract to buttercream?

I guess real mousse would only be good for a couple hours and would then need refrigerated-I defer to the experts on that. You could make a faux mousse. I've mixed white chocolate into buttercream and whipped it until nice and light, or you may be able to do the same with Rich's Bettercreme- never tried that- but any light fluffy icing with candy pieces or cherry pieces mixed in would look nice and festive.
