I just baked my first stand up bear this week (picture is in my photos) and it came out fine. I used the pan release and brushed it all over the inside of the pan. I did an extender version of BC Devil's Food cake mix and poured the whole thing into the pan (though a little bit of it came out of the top during the baking). Based on some of the suggestions that some of the members made, I baked it at 325 and I didn't use the heating core. It baked for about 90 mins and I cooled it as per directions and no cake stuck to the pan. Hope this helps.

LOTS AND LOTS of shortening. I never flour my pans, I just make sure all of the nooks and crannies are well coated in shortening and I've never really had any problems getting the cakes out
(I have the stand up pooh bear pan, and he turned out great)
