I'm trying to do a FBCT (my first). What I'm trying to do is writing with an oval background. I just did the writing--how do I get the background without ruining the writing? HELP! dunce.gif

Just let it sit a little while to firm up a bit before you do the background. (Or you could try refrigerating it till it firms up, but you have to work quickly before it softens again.)

Then use a bigger tip to cover the writing. After that sets up a bit, you can GENTLY tap it with a finger that's been dipped in cornstarch.

Pop it in the freezer and when it's done and you turn it over onto the cake, you can always do the Viva method to smooth it further.

Good luck!

I agree with projectqueen! I do them all the time and how she explained it is just what I would have said to do it. I like to use royal icing for my fbct because it hardens fast and if I miss up i can just pick it up and start again. Good Luck!
