I know that in the past I've read of people adding store-bought frosting to chocolate buttercream to make a wonderful tasting frosting. Will that crust? How do you do it? I haven't made any choc bc yet so can someone share some really yummy chocolate bc recipes that will crust? I have to do a Sweetest Day cake for a co-worker's daughter. Thanks.

I use the chocolate syrup recipe on here. It is really good. Make sure you are using store brand shortening for the crusting effect. Good Luck

I adapted my regular buttercream to make chocolate. It crusts really well and tastes very delicious!! You can see it on the chocolate wedding cake in my photos. It actually was quite a bit darker in person than shows up in the photos

Chocolate Buttercream

1/2 c shortening (NOT the new Crisco!)
1/2 c butter or margarine
1/3 c powdered non dairy coffee creamer
1/2 c cocoa
1/2 c water
1/4 t salt
2 t vanilla
2 lbs pwd sugar

Cream margarine and shortening. Add creamer and cocoa and mix well. Add salt to the water so that it can dissolve (I do this before I begin). Add water, vanilla and powdered sugar. Mix for about 5 minutes or so til nice and creamy.
Hope this helps!!

Here's mine, very tasty! I can call it 'award-winning' now, I won the Hershey cake contest this summer at a local fair using it icon_lol.gif

No dumb questions!! I should have been more clear with my abbreviations! I use the lower case t for teaspoon and a capital T for tablespoons. Sorry about that!

Thank you so much! I have a feeling I will be eating more of this frosting than using on the cake!! icon_redface.gif
