Try looking for filberts- same nut, the difference is that filberts are cultivated and hazelnuts are wild.

they are a bit harder to find. You don't say where you are from, but Whole Foods and Wegmanns grocery carries them. Also, hazelnuts are more commonly called filberts on packaging, for some reason.

I get mine from Super Walmart. Right now in the produce section they have a lot of nuts out for the holidays. They are in a bag in that section.

Aha - now I know the difference - how strange they change the name!
Don't know if you want in the shell or not... out of shell is at Wegmanns and Whole Foods (though for the holidays they might have them in shell too - they are usually in the mixed nuts at least and at my grocery you can get them separately in shell at the produce area too.) I was assuming you wanted out of shell for baking purposes.
uugh.. I wish I could find them out of the shell. My hand has a bruise from cracking so many darn hazelnuts!

Oh my goodness, I would use a different nut before cracking a gazillion nuts!!! I know hazelnuts are way yummy in baking, but I would choose almonds in place of them for similar/mild flavor, walnuts for a bolder flavor.
I always find them out of shell. At Wegmanns, they even have the skins off and are whole/out of shell! (my MIL is allergic to the skins, though I still wouldn't use them for her purposes).

i wanted to make this truffle recipe that I have and I'm supposed to roll the truffle around in hazelnuts to finish them off. I will try a different walmart before whole foods since they are closer to me. This year is my first year doing actual homemade treats I'm so excited!
