I was trying to do this cake and it came out ok for the first time but, I had to cut off the tail cause I ran out of fondant. But please anyone have any tips they can offer to help me for the real thing? Especially because some of the icing kept coming trough.

Pretty fabulous cake for a trial run! Have you considered coloring the icing to match the fondant so that if it does show through you won't really see it anyway? Also your scales seemed a bit thick... I don't mean that there was anything wrong with the way that they looked! But was thinking your fondant might go a lot farther if the scales were rolled out a bit thinner...then you could overlap them more easily too. Just a thought!

Neat cake! I think I'd lose my mind doing all of those scales. Please tell me you are using a cutter!
