I'm making a flip flop cake for a Sweet 16 and want to use vanilla wafer crumbs for the sand. I am wondering if I need to ice the board and sprinkle the crumbs or how that part is done. Can someone offer suggestions???

I iced the cake on the board, airbrushed it and wiped off any excess spray from the board. Then painted the foil on the board around the shape of the sole of the shoe with a pastry brush and light corn syrup thinned with a bit of water. I let that set a minute and then sprinkled the crumbs and just pressed them down lightly with my hand.

Thanks Shirley!! I was really thinking that corn syrup might be the best option. I appreciate your help.

Your welcome Cindy. It works pretty well because it doesn't make a lot of moisture to be absorbed by the cookie crumbs.

I put the crumbs directly on the buttercream before it crusts. If it has already crusted though, you can lightly mist it with water or take a pastry brush and moisten it that way before you put the crumbs on.
