I'm making the WASC cake and am putting some vanilla carmel creamer in the cake and BC but I really want to do a carmel apple filling. I want more than just apple preserves. Does anyone have any recipes or ideas on how to do a filling that is a mousse type that I could incoporate carmel and add either apple preserves or apple pie filling? Or am I just over doing the whole carmel apple thing? I want something thick for a filling with these flavors. Thanks so much for any help.
Shayna

This cake and filling recipe has been around for a few years. It isn't a mousse base, just chunky apples with caramel syrup.

I make caramel apple filling the cheaters way. Just take a can of apple pie filling and add caramel ice cream topping until it tastes good. The caramel thins the apples a little so it's not too thick.

I'm so craving carmel anything right now. I think what I may try is someone just posted an apple cider cream cheese filling and I thought about substituting the vanilla and the cider for vanilla carmel liquid creamer then adding carmel ice cream topping to apple pie filling or the carmel apple pie filling if I can find that and mix it in the cream cheese filling. Does that sound like it will be good?

I've done caramel apple filling a few times and it's wonderful. I make the caramel by boiling a can of sweetened condensed milk for three hours (instructions are in the recipe section). I spread that thinly on each cake layer, then top it with homemade applie pie filling. You can add chopped nuts too. Yum.

I did a Apple caramel filling with a caramel cake.
I just started with making a regular apple filling with Jar chunky apple sauce, little Cinnamon and cornstrach. Bring it to boil in a saucepan till it becomes thick.
Let it cool and then mix it up with Caramel sauce. Also, when filling the cake, put a layer of just the caramel sauce first and then the filling.

I used store bought caramel sauce. Got rave reviews! HTH

I haven't seen the apple cider recipe you're referring to but I recently made a dip that sounds similar. I took a block of cream cheese and a little butter, creamed them together until smooth and added powdered sugar and apple cider mix. Then I added butterscotch caramel ice cream topping until it was the flavor and consistency that I wanted. We dipped those graham cracker sticks in it and everyone loved it. (I also did a pumpkin pie dip along the same lines).

Jillycakes, can you refer me to what the recipe is called or provide the link, I did a search but only came up with cookies so I'm a bit lost. Thank you.

Shayna, for the caramel itself all you have to do is take an unopened can of sweetend condensed milk and peel the label off and just put it in a pot of boiling water for 3 hours. After 3 hours is up carefully take it out and open and voila caramel, at least that's how I do it. It's really easy and tastes good too.

Yup, that's how I make mine, Kara. I'm using it this weekend w/ a layer of ganache, then the caramel and then chopped nuts. Filling a darn good chocolate cake. Yum.

You might want to let the can cool to room temperature before opening...

Wilderness is a brand of pie filling. I saw some of the carmel apple filling today at Wal-Mart. I have a cake I'm doing Friday & will mix the pie filling with cream cheese for my filling. I'll let everyone know how it works!
