This is what I get for trashing the directions....I put my heating core in my cake and about 10 minutes into baking it, it popped out and was just laying on top! I took it out and shoved my flower nail in there instead but what did I do wrong?

Did you put cake mix inside the heating core. I use it all the time and never had that problem.

Second ? to Cakedeco's 1st.

Did you place it in the pan first and then fill the batter in around it?

I put the core in the pan and then filled the pan with batter. I didn't think to put batter inside core though, duh.

Yes, you grease and fill the heating core about 1/3 way up with cake batter. After the cake is baked and cooled and the cakes released from the pan and the heating core, that piece of cake goes in the hole to fill it up., narrow end down. Level your cake with the baked core in the center, then fill and ice as usual,

Too funny! icon_lol.gif I am just older than most of you and over the years I have picked up some great tips from other decorators or on my own. They shared with me and I am sharing with you, that's what a cake forum should be about. I won't be around forever and need to leave these tips to the next generation of decorators coming along. Now you guys do the same for the ones coming after you.

Inever fill my core because the bakes piece is never a perfect fit. I just fill with buttercream. Also it looks weird when you cut into it! I just pop a small plate on to of the core to keep it there until halfway baked!
