I made a pink fondant bow to go on top of a Wedding Cake I'm making. This is the first time I've ever made a fondant bow. I followed the directions and it said to roll out the fondant to 1/8 inch. However, the bow loops appear thicker than what is shown on the box. Has anyone else experienced this? Is my bow going to be ok? I haven't put it together yet.
Thanks,
Lazy_Susan
If you let them dry real well they should be just fine. The pix (haven't seen it) could have been rolled even thinner by some one who has done many bows. I use a pasta machine to get mine thinner and even. Yours should be just fine. ![]()
I wanted to piggy back a question on this topic because I've tried two fondant bows now and didn't like either of them. And maybe the information will help this young lady with her first bow...
My first fondant bow came out okay, and other people liked it but my problem with it was that; you know how you make a strip of fondant and fold it over and press the ends together right? Well, when you go to assemble the bow it felt like the pieces all together were cramped in the middle. I had a hard time getting them positioned because the folded ends were all that wide rectangular shape. But when you make a REAL bow with REAL ribbon, those inside pieces are angled and squished together, so should we do the same with the fondant bow? when we're squishing the ends of the fondant together, should we squish them so they're almost pointed? and that way they will fit better together when trying to stick them into the frosting in the center of the bow? Am I making sense?
Thanks in advance for the info
I was thinking about that same problem bunnybear. I have actually cut the corners off of all the pieces. So now they come together to a point. I just thought it would be easier to put it together. We'll see how well it works out.
PLEASE let me know, because I really want to figure that out. And send a pic? I tried shaving off the corners of my MMF pieces, but ended up breaking most of them (it was a BAD batch of MMF), and ended up having to use a real handmade bow instead. Still turned out okay as far as looks go. Oh well, live and learn, right?
Tell ya what. I'll take a picture of them unassembled and then another of it assembled. I'm going to be putting it together on Friday night.
