I've seen post where CC members have made "smash" cakes.
What are they? I don't think i've ever heard of them icon_redface.gif

A smash cake is a small cake made usually for a 1st birthday. It's given to the birthday kiddo to "smash" and do with as they please. That's what I have always called a "Smash" cake. icon_biggrin.gif

What size is standard for a smash cake? I've done a 6 inch before but I've also seen a cute little 4 inch one done by a bakery here.

To me, smaller is better so that way if they want to eat all of it they can without getting too much cake/sugar. And mom and dad don't have to try to wrestle it away from them!

i like to turn a cupcake upside down, and ice it like a cake (i've got pics in my photos). it is the perfect size for the kiddies. a six inch is a little big, but some parents do want that, so i'll do it, but charge. i do the cupcake complimentary if they ask for it.

I made a smash cake for my nephew's birthday this past weekend. I made sure it had lots of black frosting on it to repay my SIL for all the playdoh and fingerpaint she has given my kids over the years. icon_lol.gif
