Hi,
I'm fairly new to cake decorating (April of this year) and I use the Wilton crusting buttercream. I "doctor" it up some: decrease the water, add more vanilla and occasionally add cream cheese. I've noticed that the more experienced decorators here use different recipes and I too have tried others. I am still getting used to icing, smoothing the icing and decorating and eventually will try other recipes icon_smile.gif

I just the wilton already made icing. But in the recipes there are all kind of icings and it will tell you if it will crust. And most of them will crust with extra powdered sugar.

I also swear by Wilton's "class" buttercream, I replace the water by coffee creamer and just add the extract that it calls for. HTH
