oil based candy colors (wilton?) sold in the cake aisle of micheals, hobby lobby, gardenridge etc. near all the candy melts and candy supplies,..i am not sure if they make black though.

depending on your use, you could make candy clay:
1/3 cup corn syrup
mix in black gel color
then add-
1 bag melted choc candy melts

it would sieze up if yo added the gel color to the chocolate because it is water based, but if youre making the clay, it mixes in fine.

I have started with dark chocolate candy melts, and used the Wilton candy coloring to get black. but it still takes A LOT of black. I have heard that you can use the regular icing color, Wilton or Americolor, plus shortening, and it should work too.
