avoid blurry photos or ones with clutter in the background. try to choose shots with lots of light and close ups. choose one, maybe two at the most of each cake, that way people can actually pay attention ( you know how when someone pulls out those HUGE family photo albums and your like, uh...a few would be nice). you may want to add a simple typed up caption explaining BRIEFLY what it is, ie: 3-D spaceship in Buttercream or 2 tier square wedding cake in fodant with edible pearls, fresh flowers....etc). it doesnt have to be like a scrap book....actually it may be best to keep it simple.

I took a large binder with the clear plastic front and made my cover. I used my logo and some fancy paper and slipped it in the front. For the photos, I seperated mine, birthday, baby shower, wedding etc with an index sheet. I then used the clear covers to put my pictures in and numbered them. Then I would have a reference. I also put all my photos on a CD and use a small portable CD player to carry with me if I am meeting someone at a location other then the shop. I put it in slide format so they can view the pictures. When you take your photos, I agree that you need to keep them simple with not much background. Most people want to see the detail, so get good close ups. On a wedding, I take a good close up and then I take another one with the entire set-up like the table decorations, punch bowl, candles, lights, floweres etc. , that way the customer can sort of get an idea for how to display their cake.

In my portfolio I use a small photo album that you can slip the pictures in/out so I can change them as necessary. I mat them on colored paper-usually to match a color in the cake. I put the date/occasion for the cake on the paper. This particular album is can also stand up like an easel and it is easy to carry with me.

I used a scrapbook for mine that I got at Michaels. I only use one picture of each cake and I try to put it on a background of fabric.

Good luck!

I put mine in scrapbooks from Michaels also. I use 1 or 2 pictures of the cake. Usually one of the whole cake, and then another of a closeup of some detail on the cake. I use scrapbook paper and photo corners to mount mine. Then I have a small square of scrapbook paper that is a complimentary color on which I write what the cake was for, the date, and any pertinent details (buttercream, fondant, decorations, etc...). I actually had to buy more albums because I stuffed too many extra pages in mine and broke it!!!
