Well, Christmas is my favourite time of year. Well ok not fave, I love summer and winter and spring and fall and can't really find fault in any time of year LOL
however. music is a large part of why CHristmas is so amazing to me. Music has always been a large part of our family- whether it be day to day or holidays. Listening to or going out to concerts or playing instruments/singing at home together.
Without that part of it, Christmas isnt much to me, well it still is but ya get my drift lol
Anyway I wanna know what your fave Christmas music is. Whether it be a favourite carol, or genre (like country singers specials or pop singers, or old guys like elvis or sinatra etc etc, or even older, traditional stuff like choir stuff. Or any other music that represents whatever other holiday you celebrate.
I have Handel's MEssiah cranked up high on my stereo right now LOL. Over the years, its been a tradition to either go see the Messiah performed or else go to the 'singalong Messiah' where the audience gets to sing along in parts. Either way, every time I hear that music I get chills and well that just makes Christmas for me. Has to be part of the list of music lol
Oh and Little Drummer Boy is another fave- Vienna Boys Choir singing a variety of songs really works for me too lol. Not so much into the country/rock/pop singers versions

What are yours?

I love the holiday season too - always have. And it is packed full for us too! My bday is dec. 10th, then christmas, New Year, then my husband's bday is Jan 7th and his mom is Orthodox, so Jan 7 is also her Christmas (so he was a christmas baby so imagine the "hoopla") and then Orthodox New year mid January. that's 7 "events" from Thanksgiving to Orthodox New year!

However, my husband HATES the "season". He grew up in Europe and it isn't a season, but a day for Christmas and a day for new year. He grew up in a communist country, so that adds to it.

He hates carols - not carols in themselves, but that they are the same dozen songs sung over and over again (his words not mine! LOL)

So.... I have to enjoy despite Mr. Grinch. I think I understand him. I mean his bday was on Christmas and he never got to do things the way he wanted. there are "rules" as to what you can eat on Christmas, so he could never choose his meal. Never got to spend the day how he wanted - still can't as MIL lives 3 miles from us.

All this to say, I love the Music. I have found as many christmas lyrics as I could to all the songs I could find a few years back. Do you know how many songs there are? I probably don't even touch the surface of all the more contemporary songs that are recently out (like the u2 song mentioned) I guess I have to consider them "here to stay" to include them in my carol list.

Second, I buy myself one new cd a year (though I think I'll skip it this year). I have about 40 Christmas cds (In the beginning, I got a bunch! LOL) I really can only listen to them when DH isn't home, (well I could listen to them, but it would put DH in a mood) but my son loves them.

My faves? I have too many to count. We aren't religious, so we sing/enjoy more the winter theme ones the most. I like Winter Wonderland, Let it Snow, Silver Bells for singing. I enjoy hearing Santa Baby, Suzy Snowflake, and both my son and I LOVE I want a hippopotamus for Christmas!

then, I think the melodies are beautiful for Holy Night, It came upon a Midnight Clear, What Child is this, the traditional carols...

I'm annoyed with Jingle Bells though! SOOOOOOO overdone and with kids around? that's all you hear!

All in all I like most of them. Just not a big fan of the country and rock rendtions of my favorite classics and I can't STAND Harry Connick Jr's first Christmas CD as he is singing off tune at times!!! His Ave Maria made me cringe!

Otherwise I like all music minus country/western and punk and most hip hop too.

Trans Siberian Orchestra, Randy Travis, and Grandma Got Ranover by a Reindeer icon_lol.gif My gramma loved it when all us kids would sing it to her. Chased us out of the kitchen with the rolling pin, all that fun stuff icon_lol.gif

I like Christmas music, but only allow it from Black Friday till Dec 30. The kids try singing different "versions" of Jingle Bells all year, so it had to be outlawed. The things they learn at school! And from daddy's, but that's another story...

I'm not very religious but I love the traditional stuff like Silent Night.

I've been playing Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer so my youngest will sing it to my MIL. I might even invite her over for a few glasses of eggnog.

I love a lot of Christmas songs myself. One of my all-time favourites would definetely have to be Little Drummer Boy - the Bing Crosby/David Bowie version especially.

I also really love Wham's Last Christmas.

Geez, I love Christmas season! icon_lol.gif

I love all the traditional carols but my favorite album by far is Jose Feliciano's Feliz Navidad and favorite song on it is The Cherry Tree carol.
Scroll down to number 5 to hear it.

If I hear "I wanna Hippopotamus for Christmas" I will have to hurt someone, it's a cute song but once I've heard it I find myself humming or singing it for days and drive myself crazy.
