I'm a beginner baker and cake decorator, but I would love to make something great for a get-together of my local birding club.

I would really appreciate any of your thoughts on bird related creations.

Thanks!

Merissa,

YOUR CAKES ARE FABULOUS!

I'm still a newbie and don't know about chocolate transfer yet. I'm going to have to do some more reading.

I absolutely loved your cardinal cake, it was really beautiful.

And your copy of the roses cake from the cover of the Wilton magazine was superb as well. I think that's one beautiful cake.

I love your use of black in your cakes. It's so dramatic and stunning.

Does black give you a problem with teeth-staining? I'd love to try more dramatic designs myself.

Thank you for your compliments.

No, black hasnt really given me a problem. I start with dark chocolate buttercream so you dont really have to add all that much black coloring. Chocolate transfer really are not very difficult. To really get the hang of them takes some practice, but even a newbie can do them pretty well.

Here is a tutorial. Let me know if you want any other instructions. I do mine slightly differnet than the tutorial though.

I did a bird house cake for a friend last year. It's in my photos.

Bayougrl,

Your bird house cake is superb! I'll definitely have to try that one too when I get more experience.

What a wonderful idea and execution.

I also love your farm cake. My Mom and Dad have a farm and would love something like that.

I assume you support the silo with some kind of dowel? If so, I've always wondered, how do you cut a cake when there's a dowel involved?
