i read alot abt gumpaste and fondant and royal icing etc...the only thing ive used so far is regular butter cream...which of these taste good, or do any of them taste nasty...i want to get in to complicated decorations but not if it's gonna taste gross...like once i made a cake and i covered it with sugarpaste like the directoins told me and i didnt like the taste of it at all and i ended up peeling off the sugarpaste...(btw, whats the dif b/w sugarpaste and fondant?)
Sugarpaste and fondant I think are the same thing...just called different names in different countries. RI in my opinion doesn't taste good, if you take a big spoonfull of it...but most people just use it for intricate piping and cookies ![]()
MMf (marshmallow fondant) tastes very good!
HTH's
Gumpaste is not something you eat. You use it for decorations that will dry rock hard (such as flowers or bows). Royal icing is powdered sugar and water or egg waters. You may have used something like it to glaze pound cakes or doughnuts, only RI is much thicker. It is very sweet. Most people don't like the taste of fondant, but you are able to get a super smooth finish that is not possible with butter cream. What gross is to one person may be wonderful to someone else. For example, I can't stand butter cream but I decorate it with anyway.
Hi, I'm really sorry but the only thing I can really help you with is sugarpaste is fondant. we call it sugarpaste in England. Can't help with the taste thought cos as much as i love making cakes, i can't bear the taste of anything sweet.....you can imagine the sugar rush i get if i eat a piece ![]()
