What a subject, right?

Anyway, my bathroom drain cluggs often because of you guessed it, hy hair! icon_cry.gif Even when I have a short haircut, my hair falls off a lot.

I was wondering what methods you use when drain liquids and acids don't work as well anymore. I have manage on occasion to unclug it myself without these products, but I may having a bit of an issue this time.

Any ideas before I have to call a plumber? icon_rolleyes.gif

I sometimes wish I could be a plumber, and electrician and a buiilder! icon_biggrin.gif

Oh, I have PVC pipes, not copper.

There are a few things you can do before you call a plumber....

You can plunge the heck out of it....make sure the pop up stopper is either out or up all the way...then stick a rag in the overflow drain...also make sure there is a few inches of water & keep working the plunger. If that loosens the clog and the water drains...take the rag out and run the water for a few minutes

Also , if you have a wet/dry vacuum that would help....or you can use a snake

Depending on where the drain is, you might have to put a bucket under the sink and remove the trap

It helps if once or twice a month ..you boil a big pan of water and pour it down the sink to help loosen anything in there

The only way i know these things is because my kitchen sink recently clogged on both sides and i had to do some research

Yuck. I just had to clean mine out, too. I put on some rubber gloves and wrestled the hair out of it!

I don't know if this would work, but maybe you could use one of those snakes that plumbers use to unclog toilets? I'm sure I won't be able to find it now, but I once saw something in a catalog that you put over your tub drain to catch the hair. It's like the thing in your sink that stops food from going down the drain, but it was made just for this.

Well, depending on your drain type, your hair might actually be catching on a piece in the drain. Our drain is a pop up/push down, and if you unscrew it, there is a cross below it and that is where my hair accumulates, so I remove it and presto, no more clog. In the other bathroom, we use preventive measures. We buy a hair trap so no hair goes down the drain. So, after you get this clog figured out, try that so you don't have to keep dealing wtih clogs all the time.

For clogs, we use a snake - there are different kinds of snakes, so do some research. We had major clogging problems too as I have waist length thick hair and DH is just fuzzy all over! LOL

You guys are soooo funny!!! Yep, it pretty much comes down to wrestling with hair and whatever else builds down there!!!!!

It brings memories of that movie The Blob!!!! Remember, it was down the drain!

But, thanks for all the advice you all. I will definetely put my gloves on and let it rip!!!!

I have this happen all the time and I just pour baking soda down the drain and then white vinegar and it fizzes and then I let that sit and work a while and pour boiling water down the drain and it works like a charm. Good luck

Thank you, bransmom. I've tried the snake drain, acid, etc... Its still clogged. My husband came back last night and said that he would try the water pressure trick to see if he can pressure the clog with water rushing...

Oh, well, ... If acid didn't work, I wonder if the baking soda and vinegar would. But I thank you for suggesting it.

I will clean it up some (there is still some acid there) and try it. Its worth the try.

I really hope we don't have to call a plumber!!!!! icon_cry.gif

I did it!!!!!! Well, after trying everything and wrestling with the "blob" down my shower drain, I decided to try the plunger and water pressure and it WORKED!!!!! I guess after using the acid and manuvering with the snake, it had softened but it needed pressure to finally get cleared.

Thank you for everyone's help and comments!!!

Congratulations, now go to Wal-mart and get you one of those $1 white plastic things that cover your drain to stop the hair. That's what I did. All you have to do is clean the hair off when yo get out of the shower.
