So DH got me an air brush for my birthday (the man is wonderful). I've used it to airbursh luster dust mixed with vodka and once to make my black icing blacker. Now I need to make a cake with a leopard print.

I have a two layer stencil that I am going to use. I have a couple of concerns:

1) Is it easier to airbrush on fondant or on a well crusted BC? I want to do BC, but will use fondant if people say it will work better

2) I am going to do each stencil layer in a different color (The first layer is black & the second layer will be brown). Will the airbrushed colors dry? I am thinking the 1st layer of color will smear when I put the 2nd stencil over it - will it? Do I chill the cake in between layers?

Any other pointers or tips on airbrushing mutilpe layers of color??

Thanks in advance for any advise.
Cindy

Sorry I don't have the answer for you but here is a bump. Maybe someone else will know.

You can air brush fondant or bc and both will look great!

If you want to go with the bc, don't use black as the back ground color. None of your other colors will show very well. Use a tan or light brown to color your bc and use that as the back ground color. Then let it crust very well first. Then you can use your stencils. Do one color at a time and let dry completely. Then you can use the next stencil and there won't be any smearing.

Have fun with it and post your finished picture!

Thanks Debby!

I am going to color my BC tan - then start with the first layer of the stencil, which is like a circular blob (hard to explain) - I think I am going to do a dark brown. The the second stencil layer adds a shadow-like edge to the first circle blob (not on the blob, rather around 1/2 of it) - I think there I am going to do black.

I am going to test tomorrow on paper first! Thanks again - I was just worried the airbrush color would smear from one layer to the next!
