I am making "my first" for my grandaughters 6th birthday and I'm going to form the corner turrets out of ice cream cones, cover them with fondant. I've royaled them together (end to end) and they seem "so fragile." I have to cover them with fondant. CAn you give me any tips on how to do this? I'm worried when I start to cover them, they will just shatter on me! I'm thinking I will just "gently roll" them up in the fondant and then try to smooth it around them? Does that sound right?
All tips welcome PLEASE!
I am posting a picture of the castle I'm using for inspiration by musicmommy:

Hmmmm.....you are going to hve me thinking about that one! I like the idea, but you are right. regular cones are so fragile. Have you tried sending a pm to musicmommy?
Right now the only thing I can thing of to "stiffen" them up is to coat them in candy melts.
Good luck!

hmmm...sorry, I don't really have any tips to help with the ice cream cone towers. For the castle cake I made (in my photos) I used paper towel rolls with a ice cream cone pushed inside with a sugar cone on top. The sugar cone was strong enough not to crumble...

What if you stuffed them with rice krispy treats or popcorn or chocolate, or something else edible? The food would give it a little more heft. I also like the idea of coating the insides with candy melts.

This may sound wierd, but I used the foam covering for copper pipe wrapped in plastic and iced over the plastic. The foam can be cut to fit the corner of the cake base to look more natural. And yes, I am a guy.

NEpatriot...That is funny that you added that yes...you are a guy! My husband is an electrician...but he is NOT immune to giving me tips on things to help me out with the construction of my cakes/better storage etc. Men are pretty good when it comes to that kind of stuff!

Great ideas guys! Thanks! I am kind of wishing I had just used rice krispies instead....I may have to resort to that as I'd like to keep it edible. (I don't know why that becomes so important, when most don't even eat that stuff! icon_confused.gif why do we do this to ourselves?)
What about painting these cones with a coat of thin Royal icing and letting it harden? Then gently covering them with Fondant? Do you think that would strengthen them enough?

NEPatriot: Loved your idea too! May end up with that anyway! And, I did PM Musicmommy, hopefully she will let me know how she did hers.
I will keep you all posted!
