Anyone ever had rolled fondant melt right off of a cake? Me too icon_lol.gif. Constant rain, 85 degrees, what felt like at least 183% humidity and NO A/C. First the tiers (wedding, of course icon_rolleyes.gif) just had that normal sheen which usually dries, then they looked super shiny, like they had been covered in poured fondant and then the fondant gave up the ghost and peeled away from the cakes...should've taken pictures for future laughs.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knew of anything that could be added to the fondant to give as much assistance as possible in extreme conditions like this, like maybe a little Tylose. Not so much that it would dry like gumpaste, but that it would manage to keep itself together.

Thanks a bunch

I've heard of others adding a bit of gumtex for a more sturdy fondant. Haven't tried it, though.

I had a buttercream tiered cake melt on me last summer. She wanted a buttercream icing in 100 degree heat, and even with AC, -- I warned her!!! icon_cool.gif

I did a wedding cake two days ago that got a little hot when I noticed that the chocolate clay dots were getting rather glossy. I had to move the cake so the chocolate wouldn't melt all over the place!

In Miami it gets hot, and the electricity went off just as I was finishing off a boxed birthday cake in fondant. I wanted to cry. I just put some confectionary sugar on it and pressed it all together. I added a bunch of royal icing dots that were painted gold to hide big cracks. Then added a big bow. Nightmare city. Confectionary sugar helped though.
