My mom gave me the idea i think it was to get me shut up about Boston and get out of her hair while she decorated! so can anyone help a gingerbread virgin with her dreams of have a very Boston Christmas! Thanks
I posted a bunch of gingerbread house templates last week in the design and template section. One of them may help!!
someone posted a "white trash" gingerbread house right after Thanksgiving that was cracking me up. I'm totally all over that..... mine will be complete with Pink flamingo yard decor! ![]()
That sounds like it will be cute! My husand loves Boston, too. I haven't been yet - but I can't wait to go.
Did you watch the Food Network Gingerbread Challenge??? They gave some great tips, such as building your template first out of cardboard or posterboard. This will help you make sure it will all match up and be stable. Then you use the same template you made to cut out your gingerbread pieces. Good Luck - make sure you post when you are done. I would love to see it.
I would love to do a beach house as my gingerbread.
Okay so i have been racking my brain on what exactly i want from my Boston gingerbread house! I want it to do Bostons old north church or maybe faneuil hall Boston ma! Ambishus yes indeed! Now i just need template help on whatever one i think faneuil is the on i am leaning towards i think it would be easier and would look so pretty with "snow" all around!!! How do i do the stained glass windows i just want to make mind a solid color so you cant see thru???

Crushed hard candies of different colors put into the windows before baking will make stained glass windows.
Use gelatin sheets (buy on-line) if you want to be able to see any work you have done on the inside.
Good luck!

What type of Candy's should i use to make it look like the windows in faneuil hall???
I am drawing a blank what is Isomalt????
How would i go about making a template for this building i don't even know where to start ![]()

Any easy way to make sure every window is the same???? There are lots as you can see going all around the building!!!
Also any tips for this first timer on such a big project???
Hello from Boston!
I don't have any cake advice, but I think the North Church would be a good idea. Have you thought about doing Paul Revere's house or the old Statehouse? They would make good gingerbread houses too. Faneuil Hall, in my experience, is too touristy.
Good luck & would love to see pictures.
PS - PM me if you need any info about visiting the Boston area!!

In Culinary school we used sheet geletin(dry) as windowpanes for gingerbread houses. I don't recall the brand name. It has sort of a diamond pattern embossed on it.
okay so do i put the hard candies in the hole when i bake it????? if not how long would i need to bake them with the candy???
You bake the gingerbread first let it cool and then put it on baking sheets with parchment paper over them. You then crush up different colors of candies seperately and put the crushed candy in the holes. You bake it for a while, but not really to bake it, but just to melt the candies into "windowpanes" HTH!
