My mom, dad and brother all have their birthdays in less than a week. Brother is going to be here visiting from California this year, so I'd like to make one cake for all three of them. But, man, I'm having creative road block. They don't have any shared interests to speak of. Should I just do something abstract? I thought one of the leaning over looking cakes would be fun. I haven't tried one yet.

I just did a cake for 4 people. I divided a large square cake into 4 smaller squares (didn't cut them). I decorated each 4th with the specific image of the person made with edible image on gumpaste and inserted them into an appropriate background. One was a golf course, one was the beach, one was in the mountains with her Grandaughter and the 4th was in his front yard among is tractor collection. It was a real hit. You could divide a round cake into 3 pie shapes.

thanks. I'm not set up for edible images, yet. But that's my next "big purchase".

How about a three tier cake (they wouldn't have to be very big tiers if you don't need a lot of cake.) You can then decorate each tier to represent something of interest for each. You can also do a gallery search for joint or shared cakes for ideas. HTH
