This is my first attempt at doing a basketweave AND the reverse shell. There's actually a story behind this cake. As you all will notice, this is the oval cake for the final in course II. Well, my supervisor called me at 5:30 Tuesday morning and asked me if I could come in for her because he baby was sick. So, me being the nice little employee that I am, agreed on the condition that I leave by 1 because I had to be at my cake class at 5:30. Well, I got home and had my cake all ready to go and all my supplies packed up. Well, during the course of making icing and packing, my eyes started to get blurry. When that happens, its time for me to take a nap. Bad idea. Woke up at 7:58 and class was long over so, that was that. I was looking forward to that class the most because I've been wanting to learn basketweave since I started cake decorating in September. So, I decided that I would try the basketweave on my own.

Without further ado . . . .

I just did my 1st one this weekend as well. The picture is in my pictures. Yours looks great! Did you ice the cake before doing the basket weave? I didn't, but you can see the chocolate cake through it in some spots, I think next time I will do a thin layer for icing underneath, even though the directions on the internet that I found didn't say to.

I see it now. You did great! I did chocolate for my first one. (see pics). I did ice my cake first and the basketweave held onto the icing very well.

looks good! (can you make up the class though just since this is the one class you really wanted to go too?) I like how you did the orange and white together, I love the color orange.

You should contact your instructor so that he/she can give you your certificate. Most will just need a picture, so I'm sure he/she will be happy to give you the certificate once you show him/her the "proof".

You ladies are awesome. Thanks for the ecouragement. I really think having a tilting turntable would make that sooooo much easier. I think my counter tops are too low and I have the cheap wilton turntable.

Those canisters are compliments of Wal-Mart. icon_smile.gif

Great job. I love the bright orange against the white. It really brings the attention to the weave. I wish I could do that. I tried it a couple years back and it failed miserably. (I think it was the frosting).

You did a very nice job on your first basketweave. Definitely different with the orange.
