Ok - so this weekend I resisted the urge to eat the cakes, cookies and frosting I made - yay for me!!! I went to the state fair - hard to eat healthy there, but I did okay - baked potato and a few stolen fries and a little bit of fried dough...I figure I worked the fried stuff off doing yard work yesterday. How did everyone else do?

Good morning all! Can you believe that it is October already? It is just gorgeous here in PA, sunny and a little bit of chill in the air.

I was kind of bad this weekend, but all week long I was under my WW points, so I had the 35 to spare. I just cannot stop myself from picking. It's a handful of cheezits, here, a couple of chocolate chips there, and they add up. I have to lose at least 10# by December and it's not going to happen at the snail's pace that it is coming off. According to WW, I should be at goal by Nov. 17, but that is not gonna happen! Did I tell you this already? Can't remember. My whole family is taking a cruise together Dec. 17, and I really don't want to run around in a bathing suit looking the way I do now.

I have a WW question, maybe Vonnie can answer it. I read somewhere that when you earn activity points, you can exchange 4 points for food, but do not use the others if you earned more than 4. Does that make sense?

In my new WW cookbook there is a recipe for creamed spinach that sounds good, I'm going to post it on the low cal recipe thread from the other day, if anyone is interested. It's got a 1 point/serving value.

Hello, checking in here. I haven't weighed myself since I went to the doctor's office last monday. I just started my period today so I don't even want to weigh myself until next week. You know how you get bloated and all that. I won't trust it either way...Right now, it's hard to get my ring off my finger.

I've been doing fairly well with not eating between meals and not over-eating at dinnertime. I've still taken a few tastes of extra cookie dough and batter but not as much as I was before. baby steps, right? icon_redface.gif Anyway, I do have to taste it to make sure it's ok but...I need to remember to only taste it once! icon_wink.gif

I started taking the Prozac last Wednesday and I think it might be helping a little bit. I'm still a little moody but I can tell that I'm being ridiculous...you know what I mean? I've also been a little more active the last few days. When someone asks if I want to do something, I don't say, "maybe next time," but rather, "sure, why not?" I've been playing more with the cat outside and the kids...more running and jumping than before icon_smile.gif

Good for you, LaSombra...it is all about babysteps. Don't beat yourself up for little things...you can eat anything, in moderation - portion is the key.

Michellenj - I'm not really sure about the whole activity point thing - it always seemed like too much math! I'll see what I can find in my stuff and get back to you though...

yeah, I know...at least it was oatmeal cookie dough so low glycemic value...high in fiber icon_razz.gif but really, I was good about not taking alot.

I weighed myself last night. Last Sunday I was at 162.1 and last night I was at 160.3. I started my period Tues and think I finished it yesterday, so I'm not sure how much of that was actually weight lost and not just the extra water weight from my period. Either way it's a loss and I'm gonna take it.

At the moment I am one day a way from two straight weeks of walking. It's alot easier now to get on the treadmill, so that really helps. I'm also going to start looking for some information for working out at home, using weights and such, so I can start working something more than just my legs.

This week I'm going to start working on my eating. Last week I worked on eating breakfast (something I can easily skip) and eating healthy things through out the day so I'm not starved at meal times. I'm going to have to work better on eating during the weekends because it was afternoon when I ate both days this weekend.

As of yesterday we have 12 weeks until the end of the year. I'm sitting here trying to figure out a realistic weight loss goal to set for myself for then. I'm thinking 18-20lbs. That's a little over 6lbs a month. That factors in period week and there are two major eating holidays in the next few months.

Good for you TexasSugar...
I like the idea of tackling a different thing each week - it gives you time to add a new habit without it being an all or nothing effort.

I work so much better with baby steps than I do trying to do everything at once. It just gets overwhelming and frustrating and makes it easier for me to quit before I get started.

Also for those that are working out, be sure you aren't cutting your calories too drasticly. By working out and burning more calories than you do currently you may find that you need more food than you think to keep your body on track.

I haven't begun exercising myself... I have been more active in the last few days though as far as everyday things go. I'll go out of my way to walk someplace or dance with the kids, run to the shed to get supplies, etc...just little things. It doesn't seem like much exercise but it adds up and that's how I've been able to lose weight in the past. I'm not good about monotonous exercise on a machine but I am good about doing fun activities that are really actually exercise icon_smile.gif Back when I was in college, I always took the stairs to my classes instead of the elevators and I'd go to the gym between classes if I had a longer break and play racquetball (just hit the ball around cause I didn't know how to actually play), and that was awesome exercise!

I suppose getting up from this computer would help also icon_razz.gif Actually, I just got done making a batch of gingerbread cookie dough and am taking a break before making peanutbutter choc chip dough. I only took a couple little tastes of the gingerbread yay!

You know, back when I was young before kids, I waited tables and boy, that sure put me in good shape! I would work doubles and be running all day without even thinking of eating and without even thinking of trying to lose weight. After a few weeks there, I was looking really good! If I didn't have a bad shoulder and other responsibilities, I'd consider getting a job as a waitress just for the workout icon_razz.gif

Lasombra-I remember my first job out of college, it was managing a restaurant in NJ. The land is so expensive, ya know, so it was 3 stories tall, and the kitchen was on the 3rd floor. That got my butt into shape in no time. One day I was trying on clothes and was like "Hey, where'd all the cellulite go?" Unfortunately, I found it!

oh man, yeah...having to run up two flights of stairs for every order??? wow, you had to have been in great shape after that icon_biggrin.gif The second waitress job I got was at Don Pablo's and we had to run upstairs to the bar quite a bit, especially when I bartended but that wouldn't be as much work as having to go to the 3rd floor for every order icon_surprised.gif

I'm a "nerd princess" by trade (or as they insist on refering to it - a IT engineer) so it is a very stationary job to say the least. I've been trying to work a little extra activity into each day by printing at the far end of the floor instead of right by my desk - taking the stiars from the parking lot instead of the elevator...stuff like that. It's not much, but it is something.

Michellenj - I haven't had a chance to look for the activity points info for you - but I didn't forget - I will try to find it...

Hi everyone. I just found this thread. Do you guys chat regularly? I do weight watchers online and if you guys chat regularly I could sure use the support. Between being a mom, a wife, jewelery designer, and cake designer I don't end up with a whole lot of time for myself. I am trying to be better with WW and exercise. My youngest daughter just started preschool so now I have three hours a day I can use for something. How does 2 hours and 50 minutes sound for CC time and 10 minutes sound for exercise time icon_biggrin.gif. Just kidding but if you guys don't mind another person I would love to be a part of your little chat. Thanks!

Welcome, Misterc. We are a new group, this is our 2nd official week. Feel free to post yourself silly right here! Have you looked at the forums on WW online? I was surfing around a couple of days ago, and someone was not being very nice to a newbie who was asking a newbie question. Are they nice over there? I've been on the Flex plan for about 6 weeks now and have lost a frustrating 8#. Six away from my 10%.

My daughter is also in preschool. She goes m/w/f from 12:30-3, so I usually fly over to the gym after dropping her off, run or do the elliptical machine, shower, then fly back to preschool to pick her up. I'm considering going back to the gym on m/w nights to take a class. Might be a little much for me though. My legs were hurting today after my session last night. We'll see how I feel in the morning.

Fruit, low fat yogurt or low fat cottage cheese with fruit. I've actually been having a bowl of cereal with fruit as a 'snack' on my nights I have to go a long period of time between lunch and dinner.

The 100 calories snack packs can be nice too, since they keep you from eating the whole box of something, but they aren't that packed with good for you stuff. I use them when I want something sweet.

So I had chocolate chip cookies for breakfast this morning - they are the devil icon_evil.gif I drop the dog off (she stays s/my sister while I'm at work) and there they demons were fresh-baked-right-out-of-the-oven!!! EVIL! Oh well - I have been really good about snacking lately and I did five flights of stairs instead of taking the elevator up this morning. I weigh in at WW tomorrow so we'll see if I was as good as I think I've been...

From an email I get:

FALL = APPLES = FIBER = WEIGHT LOSS

Did you know that eating fiber can help you lose weight?

Read why in How Fiber Helps You Lose Weight in our Diet and Weight
Loss Tutorial:

http://www.caloriesperhour.com/tutorial_fiber.html

====================================================

TODAY'S TOPIC: An Apple a Day Keeps the WEIGHT Away

Hello Tracy,

And how about three?

It's fall for those of you living north of the equator, and that
means fresh, crisp, juicy apples are readily available once again.
Where I live in the Pacific Northwest, you can spend an entire day
touring apple farms and sampling the different varieties.

Apples, as well as other fruits, are naturally low in calories, fat
and sodium. And they contain vitamins, minerals and fiber, making
them a perfect food to enhance any meal or eat as a between meal
snack.

The nutritional qualities of fruits combine to make them an ideal
elixir for weight loss. Being low in calories means you can eat
several servings without consuming a hefty number of calories. The
fiber helps by providing bulk and making you feel full, decreasing
your appetite and the desire to eat other (higher calorie) foods.

Another benefit of eating apples or other fruits is their high
water content. The water, along with the fiber, further aids in
making you feel full. Yet because fruits are low in sodium, they
will not create excess water weight for you to carry around.

One last idea is to try having an apple BEFORE your meal. It will
make you feel just that much more satisfied with your meal. And
remember to always eat slowly, so that your body has time to begin
feeling full before you eat too much.

Enjoy the season, and make sure to take advantage of it by
including fresh fall apples in your diet plan. You might even enjoy
an apple or other fruit before every meal -- and end up having to
tighten your belt!

Healthy Regards,
Megan Porter, RD

Fiber is your friend!!
So is water. Do you know a sad thing? It wasn't until I first joined Weight Watchers that I realized, I eat instead of drinking! Isn't that weird? But it is true! The leader told me to try having a glass of water before I ate and then determine if I was actually hunger, thristy, bored etc...I thought she was nuts because I figured that I knew the difference, but it turned out that the tip really worked.

Thomas' makes these little square bagels that are whole wheat, 150 calories, and 4 grams of fiber. They are as satisfying as a regular size bagel to me. I throw a Boca burger onto it, load it up w/ zero point toppings, and have myself a delicious 3 point meal.

Today I worked out twice. While dd was at preschool, I went and ran 3.5 miles, then went back for a spinning class at 6. The instructor was late-THANK GOD!!!! I don't think that I could have done the whole class. Came home, had a Lean Cuisine-now I want a glass of wine in the tub. I think that I earned it today!

I don't know anything about these WW points...how many points is a person allowed in one day? I have bought WW meals and actually had one for lunch today but I buy different brands, whichever ones are only meat and vegetables...no pasta, rice or potatoes for me. It said on the box 5 WW points....so I'm just wondering what the point allotment is for each day on WW?

I just thought I'd chime in here too and say that I weighed myself today and I've lost a few pounds since last week. I'm not sure the exact amount because I didn't weigh on my scale but rather the doctor's scale the first time and I weighed after I'd eaten breakfast/lunch already and had sweats on but was still less than at the doctor early in the morning last week...by 3 lbs. Go me! I think it's the Prozac. I've been much more energetic since I started on it last week icon_biggrin.gif

I get 20 points per day, plus an extra 35 points to use anytime. You can divide them up and use a few every day, or for one big meal on the weekend.

Some zero points items are:
salad w/ vinegar or salad dressing spray
steamed broccoli
green beans
ketchup/mustard/pickles

1 point:
1 cup grapes
1 apple
lowfat mic popcorn

That's all that I can think of now. BBL!

your daily point alottment is determined by your height, weight, gender and now they have revamped the system to account for nursing mothers, age bracket, and wheter or not you tend to be seated or standing/moving during your work day. Then everyone gets an additonal 35 points, as Michelle mentioned to use as they like. These come in handy if you go out to dinner, or have some drinks, or if you just happen to be REALLY hungry. They do encourage you to use all of your points every day and to use the 35 "flex points" as freely as you want. You can't "bank" points like eat 10 points worth a day and then binge on the weekend. I've known some people that "banked" points so they could go out drinking without having to use Flex points - very dumb! Or people that think it makes them "better" at "dieting" because they don't eat the max they are allowed... Weight Watchers really shouldn't be viewed as a diet - it is a lifestyle change. In order to do well with the program, you need to change the way you look at food, exercise, and your overall well being. It's goal is to help you learn how to make healthy food choices and to eat when you are actuall hungry and in protion to your hunger. It sounds very idealistic, but its principles really do work - it is a matter of mindset.

Man - I should be their PR rep.
