Would like someones advice on this. I have a wedding cake due this Sunday (last minute order) and the lady wants lemon cake, she doesn't want any filling, but she wants white icing with purple and gold for accents. Question is has anyone made a lemon cake with white buttercream icing and would this taste okay? Thanks for any advice

I make this cake quite often. I just add a hint of lemon flavor to the buttercream icing to bring out the lemon flavor in the cake. It's quite good.

I'm making a lemon cake right now, I was wondering if I could put lemon extract in the buttercream. Glad to hear I can and that it tastes good.

You can also brush some limoncello liquer on the cake, I use about 1T per layer. That will bring out more of the lemon flavor. Not sure if the customer would want that or if there are going to be kids there. (the alcohol is minimal--its less than a shot for the entire cake--but some people are sensitive about that)
