I know this is redundant but im obsessed with trying to make these candy ornaments (ive never made any sort of candy mold before) and im on the michaels page but i cant find the mold that I need what would i look under? also if i dont have a double boiler or a melting pot what would i use to melt the choclate? thankyou.
Hi, Heather,
If you are working with regular chocolate, you can use a pyrex glass or steel bowl on top of a pot of slowly simmering water. Do not let the bowl touch the water itself.
Another method, good for candy melts, is to use the microwave oven. Place 1 lb in a glass bowl or large measuring cup and run the microwave on high for 1 minute. Take out the bowl/cup and stir the melts. If more time is needed, do 15 second increments, but only until the candy melts are about 2/3 melted. They will melt the rest of the way with retained heat and gentle stirring.
For white melts, use 12 second increments, as white melts, like white chocolate, are more sensitive to heat, and will burn easily.

Thankyou also i just read that you could put bowls of candy melts on a warmer like a griddle on low and let them melt that way what do you think? im still frantically searching for the ornament molds i think im going to go crazy if i dont find them ![]()
With chocolate a slow gentle heating is best. I have even heard of people maintaining heat by using an electric heating pad. The griddle might not be the best idea because it is too direct and you might get burnt chocolate on the bottom.
The microwave is great but if this is your first forray be ware that chocolate retains its shape even though it may be 95% melted and can burn easily so really adhere to the 15 sec increments the other post suggested.
Good Luck!
Heather,
I rarely use candy melts, but when I do I use my electric griddle to melt them. I place the tempered glass bowl on the griddle before heating, thenturn the dial in between off and warm.
I did not mention this before because not everyone has an electric griddle.
Alternately, I have heard of people using a heating pad to melt them. I would not do this because I have a tendency to spill things, and would end up wrecking the heating pad.

yeah im with you on that one i would definatly wreck the heating pad i have only tried melting choclate once before and it siezed up on me i have since learned it was because i was trying to add cake coloring to white candy melts i will not make that mistake agian i think i will go with the griddle idea so long as i can find the stubborn molds.
