Kay, so, my buttercream icing tastes really good, but its so greasy to the touch. This is my recipe:

1 cup butter
4 cups confectioners' sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
about 2 tbsp of milk, add til it gets whippy and fluffy.

any help on what i should change?

I think it comes down to a matter of preference. I personally think the all butter icing is greasier than the half crisco/half butter icing. Icing in itself is always going to be greasy. icon_sad.gif Maybe try the half -n- half recipe & see how that works for you.

I use the Wilton BC icing recipe (modified just a little bit)

It is:

1/2 cup solid vegetable shortening (Crisco)
1/2 cup butter
1 tsp. Wilton Clear Vanilla Extract
4 cups (1 pound) siftend confectioners' sugar
2 TBSP milk

I use the Crisco brand. It does make it taste so much better. I used generic for a few years, then ran out. I had Crisco this next time because it was on sale....I've never gone back to generic...

If you are going for icing that does not have to be 100% WHITE, (since you are using all butter in your recipe, I don't think this should be a problem), you can use regular vanilla extract instead of the clear. (cheaper)...

I, personally, don't add the 2 TBSP of milk. I add in extra vanilla! YUM! If I am flavoring the icing, I use enough flavoring + vanilla to make the 2 TBSP if I'm not using 2 TBSP of flavoring. HOpefully that is not confusing.

HTH!

I use half butter and half crisco! I just started to use genic and it does seem a little more greasier! When I use this up I will switch back to crisco brand!
