It's my daughter's 18th birthday and she wants a Nightmare Before Christmas themed cake. I plan on making a four tier square cake with black and purple alternating colors. I'd like to offset the squares as they will be the same size and add the figurines from the movie on top. This will be my first attempt at this type of cake. Any suggestions on how to make my work easier would be greatly appreciated. icon_smile.gif

I think the most important thing to remember is dowel rods, dowel rods oh and don't forget dowel rods.

Thanks 1nanette. I didn't even think about adding dowel rods. What size should I use? The squares will be apporx. 8x8.

I like to use the Wilton plastic dowels when I tier a cake. They are very sturdy. They're easy to cut to size (i use a small pair of wire cutters and cut all the way around). You could also use wooden dowels but not the little the thin ones. The cake will have a weak center of gravity and be top heavy so I suggest 1/2". That may sound like overkill but I believe in better safe than sorry. And I would go with four per cake. You can PM me if you want.
